Gluon charges

Why do gluons have 8 charges and not 9? It seems like there should be 9 combinations of colors and anti-colors. I know it has something to do with group theory, but can anyone explain it in a simple way?

Re: Question about the weak force?

Great, lets try it! Neutrinos aren't that important, right. What's the worst that could happen?
:H is mad that we broke the standard model, so we should probably put back the Z bosons now.

Re: Suggestions! (new)

Uncertainty Principle? I thought we were working with macroscopic objects, not quantum mechanics. If we are working with large objects, the uncertainty principle is irrelevant. what fraction of the two objects have the speed and position in the same direction There is no such thing as moving in the ...

I also completed 19683's level, "Electric," in 3 moves under perfect (from 21 to 18)
Wow!!! Googleplex awesome points to you! I can't afford Graham's number.

Re: Question about the weak force?

Do Z bosons play a major role in nature? If they just stopped existing then what would happen? Or would nothing much change?

Re: Suggestions! (new)

Yeah, that makes more sense. The derivative of the distance is the dot product of the relative velocity and the axis between the two objects. So, as you said, the more the relative velocity lines up with that axis, the greater the force. If the relative velocity is perpendicular to the axis, then th...

Re: Suggestions! (new)

1. There is an absolute space in which the laws of physics are true. An inertial reference frame is a reference frame that has constant relative acceleration (not velocity) relative to absolute space. Exactly! If and only if the derivative of the distance between two objects (dr/dt) was in exactly ...

Re: Evolution Simulator

Hey, any news on the evolution simulator? It's been 2 years since this was discussed. I know you are super busy, but if you have any spare time, this could be really cool to play with.

Re: Backward Time???

So maybe we must consider the 'seen' view to be closer to reality and the 'measured' view to be sort of imaginary. Because the measured view ignores the finite propagation of light, it lets information travel faster than light. It uses the effects of relativity while completely ignoring the basic pr...

Re: Suggestions! (new)

So basically instead of F = ma, we would have F = m*(da/dt). We could change Newton's first and second laws to: 1. If no force acts upon an object, it will keep a constant acceleration (not velocity). 2. A force causes a change in acceleration (not velocity). F = m*(da/dt), so force is proportional ...
