Re: Level editor?

Okway.

I mean, when you ask with that puppy-dog face, how can I say no? That should be pretty straightforward, actually. I'll add it onto my to-do list.

Re: r^-5 "Orbital Decay"?

Yeah, it reminds me of those old spirographs. The planet can only get so close to the star, and only so far, and then inside that range it just spirals around. It turns out r^-2 is pretty special for getting closed elliptical orbits. (Thank goodness for the fact Newtonian gravity *is* r^-2... just i...

Re: The List

Ah, so in some ways like A Slower Speed of Light . That's the MIT game where -- no surprises here -- the speed of light is slowed down. (Somewhat like Velocity Raptor in 3+1 D.) You just walk around and experience the world, and it doesn't really have much in the way of game elements. As for that Sl...

Re: r^-5 "Orbital Decay"?

That's no coincidence (well, the PI thing is) -- the actual equation for a circular orbit is: speed = sqrt(G*M/d) (Assuming the asteroid has negligible mass, which it does.) For the basic inverse-square law, the G (gravitational constant) in the simulation is 1. The Mass of your star is 1000. So the...

Re: Calling all Suggestions

Showing off gravity wells is a neat idea. Even if it'd be too slow to render those *all* the time, maybe I could add it as a snapshot-thing. It's only an option when the world is paused, say. I also really want to show off Lagrange points. Showing a snapshot of the wells would do that, for starters....

Re: This weird level I made

Man, that's a pretty dastardly level to try and get perfect on. I'm down to 43, though. I'd guess my strategy is similar to your method, using the right-most two columns pretty exclusively. When we're ready (and I doubt 43 is perfect, still), I can always plug it into the 'solver'. Though I get the ...

Re: This weird level I made

Phew, I got it down to 52 moves, but I'm sure we're still far from perfect.

Re: Welcome!

Haha, yeah, announcement or not, you managed to find this within an hour of me posting it. Well done, ARP!

As to your confusion, I'll certainly be posting this week about it, but I wanted to get everything in place and give it a little test run first.

Re: The List

I was bummed that (not having a PC) I couldn't play the Stranger Loop *before*. But now that I see that whacked-out diagram you drew, I'm *really* bummed! Gotta see if I can mooch off a PC-owning friend. Seems brain-tingling.
