THE Megathread! Made a cool level? Post the code below, in roughly this format:

Code: Select all

[The Electric Shocktopus-"Crate Path"-eNqr1iEJGFnqkA6MDfBLGxGpBggMdYwpQ4YQU6CGGZpRhuCGGZqDjTMlHxmbQEyC+BRhHoalJDkO3TRKELpnzch2HNgwUFKCGQdkU8d9Iyb0qJbuRkNu+IacKaz0NNYxNgWRhjpmREN4GUkJrK5WKlHSiY4FomqlNBCrFgAW9DaD]
(A level made by A Random Player, and shown off in the first episode of Feel Bad Friday)

Andy, I'd like to see you beat this level with all three stars!

Code: Select all

I worked on this level for 24 hours (discontinuous, of course). After finishing it, beating it with three stars took me two hours of continuous play...so have fun.

Wow, the gauntlet is thrown. I took a peek at the level... and yes, it looks like a doozy. I'll give it a go this week -- though I may resort to come clever editing here and there so we don't have to watch for hours :)

(Note to self -- add a ticker that shows the number of dead Shocktopuses)

(My earlier levels, for organization)

I've made some new levels (most before 0.4):

Perilous Sky

Code: Select all

[The Electric Shocktopus-"Perilous Sky"-eNrtlUESgyAMAP/iOYfGNFre0vHaD7Q3pn8vWGBAAzoqXtrAgIYlIUFEgxNeLPEjYA+tchNnElSG8gpHp5RXRtyiLbrMIWoFj1lTliG0Vea88msLFbSXDOj8bgMLa1zkpBWKmRFBLqamFElIdAyuzaG0PjFk0aB3nljE9ekus5NMYn5zUjKTdOT4YxQFZYquEjaSmClEYTLNMKNCrZtXA/fBVN08mrF7mq5nhE4NfsSq0ATW3VKV6qFj8w51hLiOXc4d7+mfpZL/YJxLXpJB3hPr3lxtR/mg3Ton1s3Gk0vQNvXOxF9+S/gU4gCxV0q4W2wzvD8lyNPi]
Self-explanatory.
Right star spoiler:

The star on the right is easier than it looks.
I made this one before the 0.4 switch, so the door is connected to a switch. I think this feature should be kept - Like a locked door to which you need the key. (And if stars can be switched, why not doors?)

No Time to Waste

Code: Select all

Alot of sand in this level, so you need to think rather quickly.

Yes, there is a small shortcut. No, I didn't see it when making the level. Yes, the title is [Element 26]ic.
Through the Spikes and Charges

I thought this was my best level name. Self-explanatory, not too difficult.

The Two Sides

Left is all positive, right is all negative. Arrow "shows" the "simplest" path (you can stop to get stars).

Since we could only have 3 stars, try to destroy all the crates as well.

Modified version of the first known user-made Shocktopus level. Right at the beginning, it appeared to use the obsolete mechanic of negative charging, so I fixed it. Unfortunately, the easy version is currently incompatible, but I'm sure Andy will get that fixed soon.

Oh boy, I know what's going on here. I forgot I had to tweak one little line of code for the game to work with old switch levels. Shoot.

I'll PM you a new build of the game -- .41, say -- and that should fix the problem right up. No loss of save-files needed.

You thought 4A4C was hard? You'll have even more fun with this one. The design's not as complex as 4A4C, and that may make it a little easier, but not much.
However, be aware that my computer REALLY doesn't like this level. Lag and freezing are constant, with the computer sounding like a space-bound rocket at liftoff- especially when I try to read the sign. I know my computer is junk, but it handles the rest of the game without a problem, so I thought I should bring the issue up.
Also, because of the performance issues, I wasn't able to test it as thoroughly as I would have liked to. I have confirmed that all three stars are possible (and not overly frustrating) to get, and I have confirmed that it's possible to get to the door. But I have not been able to make a complete run-through to confirm that every part of it is possible and not excessively difficult, like I did with 4A4C. So there's a possibility you'll run into level design problems when completing it- if so, just tell me.

Not that laggy for me, though over time TES seems to slow down somewhat (maybe because it's a dev build?).

So you know that feeling when you're charging or moving carefully with a line of missiles, when suddenly you get too close to a charge or hold Z for a fraction of a second too long, and you crash into the missile from the back.. and it was almost about to explode against the wall anyway?
That's this level.

Also I though the middle section was quite creative (and stressful...) but thankfully I beat it on the first try. I ended up doing this:

But I managed to beat the level in the end. (Skipped the last star though, chances are I'd fail on that one).
PS. The only escape is death = EVIL

Then your computer isn't junk. Mine is. It's a two-and-a-half-year-old Toshiba budget laptop that desperately wants to be replaced.
So you know that feeling when you're charging or moving carefully with a line of missiles, when suddenly you get too close to a charge or hold Z for a fraction of a second too long, and you crash into the missile from the back.. and it was almost about to explode against the wall anyway?

:) I like frustrating people with hard levels. Sounds like this was the middle-right of the level, which makes it especially frustrating. That part was the hardest, actually. Without the negative charges, the nearby conductor makes the electric field in the center of that area too weak, meaning you can either hit a missile or have one hit you. Positive charges didn't fix the problem, so I used negative...but finding a strength and location that solved the problem and didn't cause others was quite a challenge.
Also I though the middle section was quite creative (and stressful...) but thankfully I beat it on the first try. I ended up doing this:
You thought the crate area was creative? It's just a bigger version of a level exfret made, as well as part of level 30. There was no original design there.
Also, I think you forgot to include whatever you meant by "this".
But I managed to beat the level in the end. (Skipped the last star though, chances are I'd fail on that one).
That last star really is the hardest. Here's a hint: If the platform right above you is to your right, jump just as the missile above hits the spikes. Too early, and you'll hit that missile. Too late, and a missile on your level will hit you. Getting to the top is possible, though. After you grab the star, descend very carefully, using the guns as a ladder.
If you still can't get it, cheat.
SPOILER
SPOILER_SHOW
You can't get on top of the guns from the ground, but you don't have to go very far up to do it. And once on top, the missiles become much less dangerous (which is why I didn't fill in the space around the guns- I wanted the player to have an easy way to get down).
I didn't intend for that to be possible, but it is, and it can't be fixed without a complete redesign of the level or a completely different puzzle for that star. I'm not doing either, so I've resigned myself to the shortcut's existence.
PS. The only escape is death = EVIL
Teehee. I was hoping to include an unwinnable section in 4A4C, but it didn't work out. This time I had enough space, and I made certain to place the sign chamber level with and right next to the door, just to taunt the player. What was your reaction when you realized you were stuck?
